Cooperative learning is a learning method in which students are divided into small groups and graded as a team by working together on specific tasks. Because everyone in the team has their own responsibilities, and students are graded as a team rather than as individuals, the quality of the work depends on everyone in the team. In the learning process, students need to share information and cooperate. Therefore, cooperative learning can improve students’ independence and cooperative ability.
In my opinion, cooperative learning should be based on a reasonable combination of gender ratio, interest tendency, learning level and communication skills. Essentially, groups of 4-6 people sit in rectangles to facilitate face-to-face instruction and group discussion. Cooperative learning also promotes resource sharing and mutual help. First, the coach can set up some competitions between the groups, so that they can make progress together. Problems that arise between groups must first be solved by the members of the group. If they can’t solve these problems, they can turn to other groups for help. Through our efforts, the problem was solved together.
For our group project, we strongly recommend cooperative learning for the learners. We want to teach our learners the basic economic theory, and considering problems emerged in our daily lives with economics perspective. Since economics is a subject that requires lots of comprehensions, it is preferable to let students discuss with each other. When discussing with each other, they are able to exchange their own opinions, and sharing their own examples from their daily life. We will separate our students into 4 persons each group, and we will allow the whole class to use WordPress to discuss with each other. I believe the learning efficiency will be boosted to large extent if we take the cooperative learning into practices.
I stronly agree with SiJia Liu
Cooperative learning can not only facilitates the efficiency of the learning process but also provides the chances of communication through the class.
